In the summer of '75, Susie was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and given 10 months to live. True to her rebel nature, Susie spurned conventional thinking and rejected chemotherapy. "When it's my time, I'm dying with a full head of hair!" She lived a healthy, productive life, living in her own house with no special care 37 years after her death sentence.
Susie coined the term Fitzjarrell time. You could hurry her all you want, but she'll get there only when she's ready. Susie was iconic and always called her own shots.
Earl was the love of her life and her proudest accomplishments were her sons, Jimmy, Michael and Eddie. She would cook them cinnamon rolls and pies until they could barely buckle their belts. And she buckled her belts with pride celebrating her daughters-in-law’s, Vera Fitzjarrell, Larerne Fitzjarrell; grandsons Michael Sean, Zachary Abshire, granddaughter Kelly Colleen; three great-grandchildren and her brother Bert Lyon, Jr.
Susie always had a spot at the table for the less fortunate and regularly invited people to join our holiday table if they didn't have a place to go. Her love of dancing was infectious and wanted to dance every dance she possibly could. Her granddaughter Kelly picked up where Susie left off.
Susie had a stroke on Friday and passed on Sunday with her son Michael holding her hand. We should all be so lucky.
Rest easy Susie, and show those folks how to dance!
Funeral services will be 11:00AM, Friday August 17, 2012 at Fairview Cemetery Chapel in Denison, TX.
