Charlotte Jane Nusbaum passed away on May 24, 2020. She was born on February 16, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to Charles Daniel Darragh and Meta Camille Sorensen. She had a younger brother Charles Daniel Jr (2019) and sister Nancy Ann Hayhurst (1969). Charlotte’s family spent their summers in Sawyer, Michigan and enjoyed beach activities and hiking the sand dunes in Warren Dunes State Park. Her father was a purchasing manager for Libby Foods and was involved in the initial canning of pineapples in Hawaii. She graduated from Hirsch High School in Chicago and received a two year Associate degree in Arts and a Certificate of Proficiency in Secretarial work from Stephens College in 1946 in Columbia, Missouri. She married LeRoy Lachman on June 29, 1946. They lived in various small towns in Southern Michigan while Roy attended Western Michigan University. They moved to Denver, Colorado in 1952 and enjoyed the mountains and clean air. They had four children, David LeRoy, the late James Charles, Donald Gary and Barbara Jane. They divorced after 28 years of marriage and in 1980 Charlotte met her second husband, Donald M. Nusbaum. They were married May 20, 1991 and have shared 40 years of traveling and fun activities. Charlotte worked as a secretary in both the family business and for various local businesses. She later worked for Samsonite, Husky Oil and Metro Brokers before retiring in 1993.
Charlotte enjoyed fishing and hiking in Colorado. She also was an avid dancer, reader, golfer, bridge player, bowler and loved musicals and gardens outdoors. She and husband Donald traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe and planned local vacations and outings on a regular basis. Charlotte was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband Donald M. Nusbaum; children, David LeRoy Lachman, daughter in law Gloria Marie Cobb, son Donald Gary Lachman and wife Donna, daughter Barbara Jane Tedesko and husband William, step daughter Pamela Kaufmann and husband Dallas; grandchildren, Dana and Joshua Willey, Brian and Stephanie Lachman, Benjamin Lachman, Christopher Lachman, Gina and Jason Thomas and William Tedesko Jr., five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Olinger Hampden Memorial Gardens, 8600 E. Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rocky Mountain PBS.
