Christopher Kent Thomas, age 52, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Presbyterian Saint Luke’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends at the time of death.
Chris Kent was born on August 19, 1967 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He is survived by his loving family, L. Kent Thomas (father), R. Kayleen Thomas (R. Kayleen Studebaker) (mother), Jana Thomas-Roach (sister), Michael Roach (brother-in-law), Caitlin Roach (niece), Megan Roach (niece), his dear friend, Alain Suel and his orange tabby kitties, Chester and Pongo. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mose and Sedilla Studebaker, Leonard and Geneva Thomas and his aunt, Joanne Kaylor (Joanne Thomas).
Growing up and throughout his life, Chris Kent was creative and passionate about what he believed in, with an entrepreneurial spirit. He joined the swim team early on and swam throughout his life, even joining a master’s swim team in Denver. In high school, he was one of a few in his class to earn the highest ranking of Eagle Scout. Chris Kent graduated from the University of Kansas in 1992 with a B.A., focusing on Computer Science and Language (German). With a love for Apple computers, he found his calling in programming and database design. Following college, he worked in Vancouver, BC and then finally settled in Denver, Colorado, where he worked for US West and then started his own company, Lucid Database Design, using FileMaker Pro. There was no computer issue he could not solve and he easily earned the status of “Genius Bar” with his family and friends.
He was creative and loved music and the arts. Growing up, he took piano lessons and as an adult, he played a variety of other instruments. He has been a dedicated supporter of many charities, including the Denver Young Artist Orchestra Association and the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. He believed in giving back and helping those in need.
Christ Kent LOVED to travel home and abroad and took many vacations with his family growing up. He most recently traveled to Spain with his sister and family, guiding them around the many sites. Colorado was a favorite destination and he was happy to settle there.
Chris Kent was so many things to his friends and family. Everything was possible with his patience and charm. He was a gentle, peaceful, loving soul with a great sense of humor. He was an entrepreneur, an inventor, a lover of technology, a thinker outside of the box. He was a lover of animals, nature and being outdoors. He was a witty, fun-loving uncle and brother, with nieces who in his opinion, could do no wrong. He was a beloved Preschool Sunday School teacher and a kid at heart. He was a beloved son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and true friend and we will miss him to no end. Chris Kent left this world in a better place.
