David Jennings Baker, our beloved son and brother, passed away on July 8, 2025, in Denver, Colorado. He is reunited with his paternal grandparents, Dawn and Herman Baker, lovingly known as Ma and Granddaddy. David will always be remembered for his kindhearted nature and fearless spirit of adventure. He was born on March 2, 1994, in Baton Rouge, LA. From an early age, he loved spending time with people and surrounded himself with family and friends. He treasured each visit to North Carolina to be with his grandparents and cousins.
Many of David’s friendships began at Southside Baptist Preschool and remained throughout his years at Trinity Episcopal Day School and University High School. He embraced any opportunity to spend time with friends, and especially loved playing outside – climbing trees, riding bikes, playing with the hose, and throwing the baseball. As he grew, he developed into a gifted athlete and fierce competitor. Of all the sports he competed in, baseball was his favorite. He played several positions over the years but contributed to his team as a pitcher in high school. Some of his most cherished moments were the conversations and camaraderie that took place in the dugout.
David had a lifelong love for animals, especially his family’s black lab, Daisy, which led him to a job as a veterinary technician. He was also passionate about music and enjoyed attending concerts and traveling to music festivals. He left Baton Rouge to pursue a life in Colorado, working in security and event production for concerts. Then he spent a few years in the Dallas area before returning to Colorado.
Spending time in God’s creation gave David a sense of peace and joy, especially when it was shared with someone special. His favorite places were Table Rock, Grandfather Mountain, the waterfall by his grandparents’ cabin, the levee of the Mississippi River at sunset, Red Rocks, and the beach with his cousins. These places gave him a sense of contentment that he longed for throughout his life.
David is survived by his parents, Robin and Carl Baker of Baton Rouge, LA; brother Matthew Baker and wife Georgi of Huntsville, UT; sister Charlotte Moss and husband Matt of Jackson, MS; nephew Luke Baker and his mother Ahlisha of Glenwood, AR; nephews Baker and Jacob Moss of Jackson, MS; and nephew Elijah Baker of Huntsville, UT. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Nancy and Moe Richmond of Baton Rouge, LA, lovingly known as Gran Nan and Papa Moe, and numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends who were close to David’s heart.
A service celebrating David’s life will be held on Friday, July 25, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 763 North Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA, 70802. Prior to the service, visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the Reception Room at First Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in David’s memory can be made to A Way Out, PO Box 1124, Carbondale, CO, 81623 (https://awayout.org/donate/), or another charity of choice.
