Delores “Dee” Lorraine Wayman, 79, of Denver, Colorado, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, September 28, 2026, with her beloved husband of nearly 59 years, Harold “Skip” Austin Wayman, and her loyal dog, Tinker, by her side.
Dee was born on June 26, 1947, in Pensacola, Florida, to Frank Reilly Henderson and Marion Jewell Henderson. The oldest of five children, she grew up alongside her siblings Edward, Robbie Ann, Frank Reilly III, and William Walter. Family was important to Dee from the very beginning and remained so throughout her life.
On November 25, 1967, Dee married the love of her life, Harold Austin “Skip” Wayman. Together, they shared nearly six decades of marriage and raised three children, Cynthia Michelle, Kenneth Austin, and Christina Nicole.
Dee’s faith was central to her life. She believed deeply in sharing God’s love with the people around her, not only through what she said, but through how she cared for others. She was generous with her time, her love, and her affection. She had a special place in her heart for young people, many of whom came to call her “Mom,” even well after having grown.
And then there was the candy and sweet treats.
Dee rarely arrived at church without something sweet to share, and before long, she became known as the “Candy Lady.” It was one of those little things that perfectly captured who Dee was. She loved making people feel special, and she found great joy in giving something that would make someone smile.
Her sense of humor was every bit as memorable as her generosity. Dee was known for her playful pranks, quick wit, and the ease in which she could make people feel comfortable around her. She welcomed people as they were, and those who knew her, knew that they were loved.
Dee was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Reilly Henderson Jr., and Marion Jewell Henderson, and her brothers Frank Reilly Henderson III, William Walter Henderson, and Edward Lewis Henderson.
She is survived by her husband, Harold “Skip” Wayman; her children, Cindy Wayman Bouquet, Ken Wayman, and Christina (Stephen) Hinterkopf; her grandchildren, Ashley (Josiah) Swithers and Hannah Bouquet; her great-grandson, Elijah Swithers; and her sister, Robbie Ann (Dale) Maurer.
A viewing will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at The Avenue Church in Aurora, Colorado. A reception for friends and family will follow the service.
Her interment will take place the following Tuesday, October 13, at 11:30 a.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery. All who knew and loved her are invited.
