Doris Auger Davis was born June 7, 1927 in Denver, Colorado to parents Jim and Mary Shirley, and beloved older sister, Edith Shirley. She was a Denver native who graduated from Denver South High School in 1945.
Doris was involved in many things during her life. She was an early volunteer with the Denver Civic Ballet, former President of the Optimist Club of Windsor Gardens, and an avocational Egyptologist, who spoke to schools and at the museum about King Tut. She loved it so much she would dress as Queen Nefertiti while giving her lectures. Doris was also a longtime member of Park Hill United Methodist Church, working as a secretary at the church during the 1970’s.
Doris was a secretary most of her life, working first at Fort Logan during WWII and then the Denver Clinic during the 1950’s. She also worked as the secretary for the International Brotherhood Of Electrical Workers, Local 68 and was executive secretary to the President of the Colorado Labor Council. Her last secretary position was for 1 year at the V.A. Hospital as coordinator with The Univeristy Of Colorado Medical Center. Although she was a secretary most of her life, her other passion was being an author. Doris wrote two books “Flower Of The Nile” and “Hero of West Irvington Place” under the pen name Auger Davis.
Doris had the amazing experience to travel – to over 80 different countries. She was an avid Broncos fan, being a season ticket holder since 1967. She was a devoted democrat and she loved to dance. She was active in the evening circles and the Prospectors at Park Hill United Methodist Church.
Doris was married to William Auger on January 26, 1946. They had one child, Jenny. Unfortunatley William passed away in 1989. Doris found love again when she married Henry Davis at Park Hill United Methodist Church in July of 1991. They spent 22 beautiful years together.
Doris is proceded in death by her parents, her sister Edith Smith, and her first husband William. She is survived by her husband Henry Davis of Aurora; daughter, Jenny Todd of Longview, Texas, grandchildren, Meralee Hoffelt of Littleton, Colorado, Monica Jankow of Beaverton, Oregon, James Ruby of Evans, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Warren and Orson Hoffelt of Littleton, Colorado and Lula Jankow of Beaverton, Oregon. She was just a few weeks shy of welcoming her fourth great-grandchild.
