Dorothy Ann Peters

Dorothy Peters, a loving and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died peacefully on June 29, 2026, at 96 years of age.

She was born on May 10, 1930, to Sam and Tena Vander Laan in Denver, Colorado. She attended Denver Christian Schools through grade 9 and graduated from South High School in 1948.

She married Joe Peters from Rock Valley, Iowa, on January 29, 1952. They moved to Chino, California, and lived there for 17 years, then moved to Denver in 1969.

Dorothy worked for Denver Public Schools for many years as a secretary. When they retired in 1989, Dorothy and Joe enjoyed many of life's retirement benefits, traveling around the country for 5 years in their RV and wintering in Arizona. They also enjoyed visiting grandchildren, as well as their many friends.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Joel and (Gwen), (Ken Heersink), and Steve and (Dawn); Grandchildren Shelly and (Ryan) Dooyema, Craig and (Laura) Peters, Kyle and (Heather) Peters, Kara and (Cory VanDyke), Jordan and (Joscelyn) Peters, and Jenna Peters. She was also blessed with 14 great grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, their daughter Karen and granddaughter Kendra Heersink, brother James Vander Laan, sisters Winifred Anema, Hermina Coffey Wise, and Francis Brummel.

A private burial was held at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
