Wesley Paul and are saddened by the loss of your wonderful husband and our friend, mine since Junior High in Clovis.  His birthday is remembered by me because I have a grandson who shared the day with Doug.  Many prayers are sent from our families to yours.  Doug will be eternally missed by all who knew and valued his friendship.

May God's blessings be with you and all of the family.  Death of a loved one and friend is hard to endure especially around the holiday times.  Just always remember God called Doug home as He will each of us in His time.  Know Doug is now resting and is at peace and free of all ailments and pain.

Although I didn't meet Doug, I felt as if I knew him from all the stories Lee told. My heart hurts for you and my eyes are leaking. God bless you all in this most difficult time.

 I have many memories of Mr. Wilkerson  but one of my favorites will be playing poker with him at Tubby’s.   Watching him get worked up over a player who stayed in with a garbage hand that ultimately won the round. He would say “ who stays in with that garbage hand!” We all would just laugh.

I attended high school  and college with Doug and Leola.  I can't remember when the two of you weren't together.  The Good Lord blessed you all with many years together.  I hope you have many happy memories to help you through this time of sorrow.

The passing of my beloved friend Douglas hit me very very hard.  His daughter Brenda gave me the news and it was so incredible unbelievable.  We had just spoken two days before and were planning on getting together again after many years.  I have always believed that people come into our lives for a reason and Doug is a good example of this in my life.  I first knew Doug when he was the Goodyear store manager in Artesia NM and I was his credit manager.  There was an old style pool hall at the side of our store and I will tell you we spent many many hours there and damn it Doug took great pleasure in beating me most all the time!!  A story that I have told and retold probably a 100 times is when Doug was very involved with the local Elks club and they were sponsoring a dance get together.  Doug invited me and my wife at the time and we gladly went.  Long story very short is Doug and I had QUITE a few too many and ended up with Doug and I together on the dance floor together and getting amorous.  Terribly embarrassing for Leola and my wife Marilyn !  My wife locked me out of the house and I spent the night sprawled out on my driveway.  Doug and Leola honored me by naming one of their sons after me and I will say in all honesty that Doug's family meant the world to him.  He idolized Leola, Brenda you have always been his princess and Troy and LC you have been the source of so much pride with your dad!!  Rest in Peace my brother, and I will see you again on the other side of the river and by God's grace I am going to play you one more game of pool!!  Love you brother!!

Words cannot describe how I felt when I learned of Doug's passing.  I found and find it hard to believe that he would no longer be there for the three of us to talk and to send emails to.  Leola, I am so sorry and wish I could be there with you but time and weather are not conducive to the trip.  My friendship with Doug began in junior high so he's been a part of my life for many years and he will be missed.  Love to all of the family.

I am reminded that people come into your life for a reason!!  Doug most certainly had a huge impact on mine!!  Doug was my boss in Artesia New Mexico where he was the Goodyear store manager and I was his credit manager!!  Directly to the side of our store was an old style pool hall and we played many many games of pool there every single day!!  I might add that he would beat my ass every single time!  Doug was also a very active member of the Artesia Elks club and one of my memoires that I have told at least a thousand times is when they had a members party and he invited me and my wife at the time.  We proceeded to have more than our share of the liquid refreshments and suffice to say that we ended up being very amourous with each other on the dance floor.  His wife Leola and my wife were totally embarrassed and my wife locked me out of the house and I spent the night sprawled on our drive way floor!!  We both ended up at Motorola and remained life long friends.  Even though we hadn't seen each other for many many years, we remained in contact and I loved him like a brother. He bestowed upon me a huge honor when he named his son LC after me!!  Douglas I will miss you brother so very much.  My deepest sympathies to the family, you were one that had a huge heart and always reaching out to others that were less fortunate.  I will see you again my brother on the other side of the river and God permitting I will play one more game of pool with you.  RIP my brother!!  LC Baird

Over 40 years ago my family moved to Colorado and we landed right next door to the Wilkerson family. I have so many memories that it's hard to pin point my favorite one. I would have to say the most fun we had with Doug and Lee was playing poker at my parents. He loved to play poker and would get discouraged when someone won a hand of Texas hold 'em when dealt a 2 and 3 off suit!  We would have so much fun sharing snacks a few cocktails and laughing for hours. The news of his passing has touched my family deeply and we will always be there for the family. 

Leola, I want you to know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I lost Sonny three years ago, and I miss him everyday. It’s been a long time since we’ve been in touch. I’m sorry it takes something like this for me to tell you I’m thinking about you.  There are several of us living in this area of New Mexico and Texas. Betty True and I live in Roswell, Bobbie Crow lives in Ruidoso, Cathy Williams lives in Midland, Texas, several live In Albuquerque, and Clovis. If you ever get back down this way or want to I’d love to get some of our class together. It would be fun.  You take care of yourself. 

I met Doug when I became a sales secretary at Motorola in 1987 for another sales group in the Denver office. He helped me understand profit-sharing  and  encouraged me to  put away as much as I could for my future. After his retirement and my layoff from Motorola I was invited to attend what I call an ex-Mo luncheon that he organized several times a year for many years.  I had lunch just a couple months ago with Doug and Lee. He was a very kind soul who had other peoples’ best interests at heart.  I will miss lunches with he and Lee. I will keep Lee and the family in my thoughts and prayers. I will miss you, Doug. 

I became somewhat associated with Doug Wilkerson when I was in charge of Arapahoe County's Communications and Doug was with the Motorola Team in the Denver Office.  I found Doug to be quite friendly and professional. Over the years, I wound up in several meeting with Doug, Sam, and Bob. 
I remember one time he and I spent some time talking while we were waiting for our flight(s) in an airport and he was not too happy with the TSA. I agreed with him and I still have the same opinion today. 

Since we both retired, we haven't seen each other as we went our separate ways. I do miss seeing and visiting with him. My prayers for the family and I'll see you soon enough Doug.


Although Doug and I both worked for Motorola, we lived thousands of miles apart. We met and became friends through Motorola’s Profit Sharing program and met at meetings twice a year in Chicago and Phoenix. What a kind and caring gentleman, and I emphasize gentleman, he was. We’ve kept in touch over the years sending emails back and forth. My deepest sympathy to Lee and his entire family. I’m so saddened.

Although there are no words at this time that can ease your pain & grief, hopefully this helps: My relationship with Doug began over 30+ years ago, when I began my career with Motorola.  As a young salesperson, we formed a friendship but more importantly, He became a mentor, and I was inspired to integrate his many attributes into my lifelong  journey.

Although, our career paths changed, every time our paths crossed, it was just like those times years ago, filled with laughter & friendship.

Doug will be forever in my thoughts until we meet again and please accept my heartfelt condolences as to your loss.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the services but rest assured, that you will all be in my thoughts.
