Eugene Mares

Eugene Mares, lovingly known as Gene, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, in Aurora, Colorado, at the age of 76. Born on January 6, 1950, in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Gene lived a life filled with love, service, and devotion to his family. Gene proudly served his country for four years in the United States Air Force. His time in the military was a testament of his dedication and sense of duty. After his service, he continued to embody these values throughout his life. Gene was a man of generosity and kindness. He found joy in simple pleasures – scratch tickets and trips to the casino brought him excitement, while his passion for old old cars reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship and nostalgia. Above all else, he cherished time spent with his grandchildren. They were the light of life and the source of his greatest pride.

Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanette Mares, his daughters; Jolene Linares and Erica Salgado (Dr. Frank Chow), his treasured grandchildren; Salina Salgado, Alexis Mares, Alex Salgado, Alyssa Linares and Jessica Linares. He also leaves behind his great-grandson Lovon Langston and his siblings Moses Mares, Robert Mares, Ruby Mares and Genevive Mares.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Napoleon Mares, Dominga (Lela) Mares, as well as his sisters, Pauline Mares and Frances Sanchez.

Gene’s memory will be forever cherished by those who loved him. His legacy is one of love for family and an enduring spirit that will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 11:00am to 2:00pm at Olinger Hampden Mortuary 8600 East Hampden Ave. Denver, Colorado, 80231
