May 14, 1915 – June 10, 2018
Evelyn Lefferdink, 103 years old, passed away in Denver, Colorado on June 10, 2018. She was born in Firth, Nebraska on May 14, 1915, the first girl of Berend and Theresa (Drent) Lefferdink. She and her siblings Vernon, Glenn, Gladys, Crystal, and Betty all grew up on a farm in Holland, Nebraska, where she studied to become a schoolteacher, receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Music from Nebraska Wesleyan University.
After teaching piano and other instrumental music for a period of time in Lincoln City Schools as well as in rural Nebraska, Evelyn moved to New York City to pursue her love of music, specifically opera and piano, where she studied at the famous Julliard School of Music. She eventually moved to Los Angeles, California where she resided for many years. She worked for BOAC (airline) in food service, and also taught private piano lessons. Evelyn was very involved in her communities, specifically performing as a Lyric Soprano in churches, local theatre groups and the Santa Monica Opera Company. Evelyn practiced a healthy lifestyle in terms of daily exercise, nutrition, and a vitamin regimen, but she LOVED a good piece of candy, and would bless her siblings and many nieces and nephews at the holidays by mailing delicious See’s Chocolates from California! Evelyn also enjoyed traveling and was able to see much of our country and the world. Evelyn’s nieces and nephews remember her as the “glamorous, movie-star aunt” and in fact Evelyn was lauded for her work as a hostess in various night clubs and restaurants in both New York and Los Angeles.
Evelyn moved to Denver, Colorado, driving her car all the way from California. After living in her own apartment for a number of years, and again living near and sharing experiences with two of her sisters, she eventually moved to Clermont Assisted Living Community where she was extremely well-loved and cared for by so many wonderful people. Evelyn was joined at Clermont by her sister, Crystal and they enjoyed many happy times there together.
Evelyn is pre-deceased by her parents and siblings, and is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews all over the country. She will be remembered also by those who selflessly served her at Clermont. Her surviving family cannot say enough about these wonderful people who loved her and cared for her with compassion, respect, and love. Thank you, Clermont Park Assisted Living Community.

As a great nephew, I remember Aunt Evelyn visiting grandpa Vernon, and thought is her as the movie star aunt too! She always wore a smile and brightened the mood wherever she might be. She lived life to the fullest!
