Fay Lyla Hatch, 96, died on March 30, 2024. Fay was born on November 18, 1927 in Denver, Colorado to Fay Lyle and Sarah Ann Chapin. Fay graduated from South High School in Denver, Class of 1945. Fay married Raymond A. Hatch and celebrated 69 years of marriage before his death in 2018.
Fay was also predeceased by her brother Eke Chapin, her stepbrother Carol King Chapin and son in law Donald Howard.
Surviving family members include daughters Cyndi Howard (Don, dec.) Littleton, CO, Peggy (Lee) Bornschlegel, Prescott, AZ and Susan (Dave) Steepleton, Highlands Ranch, CO, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, 4 nieces and 3 nephews. Fay was loved and will be missed by all.
Fay's work experience included Montgomery Ward, Denver Post Office, Mountain State Telephone Company and Rocky Mountain Catering. Her greatest work was her home. Fay enjoyed sewing and making most of her daughters’ clothing when they were young. Fay enjoyed cooking, entertaining, gardening, oil painting, golfing and traveling. Fay and Ray enjoyed numerous cruises and snowbirding to Phoenix for 17 years, but Fay always loved returning to Denver.
Fay met a special group of friends through a weekly women’s volleyball group. This progressed into the families enjoying water skiing, picnics and other special events together, making this group a special part throughout their lifetime.
Fay and Ray were lifelong members of the South Denver Church of Christ and then the University Church of Christ, having dear friends and family.
Fay once wrote, “… I’ve had a full and good life with no regrets! God has really blessed me.”
A funeral service for Fay will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 10:00 AM at University Church of Christ, 2000 S. Milwaukee Street, Denver, CO 80210. There will be a graveside service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM for the family at Olinger Hampden Mortuary & Cemetery, 8600 East Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231.
