Gary is survived by his parents Milton and Elaine Roeckel of Aurora, CO, his two brothers David Roeckel and wife Kat of Boulder, CO and Bruce Roeckel and wife Shirley of San Diego, CA, and his sister, Donna Roeckel of Sedalia, CO. He also leaves behind six nieces and nephews and one grand-niece.
A native of the east coast, Gary moved to Colorado early on, fell in love with it, and remained there for the majority of his life. A free spirit that valued his independence, Gary loved road trips, traveling the universe, and living life to the fullest extent. Most of his life he was known as “The Rock” or “The Door” because of his giant stature and unavoidable presence.
Gary made an immediate and long lasting impression wherever he went with his easy going personality. Family and friends will undoubtedly miss hearing his infectious laugh the most.
Gary was a draftsperson extraordinaire and ace heavy equipment mechanic. He spent much of his life helping build many aspects of the land he loved, including T-Rex and Denver International Airport.
Gary will be greatly missed by all who knew him as there is simply no replacement for his personality, friendship, or presence.
Friends and family are invited to honor Gary by attending a celebration of his life on Saturday, May 14th at 12:00pm at Cap City Tavern, 1247 Bannock Street, Denver, Colorado 80204.
