Gordon was born on Jan. 24, 1927 in Burlington, Illinois where his family ran the small town’s meat & grocery store. He graduated from Elgin Academy in Elgin, IL in December 1945 and served in the US Navy until August 1946. Upon his honorable discharge he headed west to Colorado Springs to attend Colorado College where he met his future wife, Anne Wiedman. In 1948 they transferred to the University of Denver. In 1950 he graduated with a BSBA and married Anne in Denver in November.
Gordon had a long and fulfilling career as President of Westcott Advertising, Inc. , bringing the national spotlight to Denver many times with clients such as: Intermountain Theaters with the world premier of “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” and “Cat Ballou”; MCA (Music Corporation of America), Colorado State Bank, Greeley Gas Company and Farm Bureau Insurance, to name a few. After "retirement" from advertising, you could see him at Dillard’s in the Men's Furnishings department for more than ten years.
Gordon was a very active member of the community, including an alumni of Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Colorado College and the University of Denver, bringing over 68 years of leadership and support to the chapters. Gordon will always be remembered at DU as the creator of Beach Combers Ball, which became the premier Greek social event on campus from 1948 into the 1990s. He was also a member of the Denver Masons, El Jebel Shriners and Hope United Methodist Church.
Devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anne Wiedman, and their 3 children and 3 grandsons: Susan Stroud (husband John and son Daniel), David Westcott (sons Van and Jens) and Michael Westcott. Predeceased by sister, Doris Westcott Licht, mother, Edith Van Dusen Westcott Damberg, father, Harry Anderson Westcott, and stepfather Jens Damberg.
