Helena Alice was born on 5 September, 1933 in Laurel, Maryland to Clarence Monroe Brown and Inez Marguerite Molyneaux. She was the youngest of three sisters; Estelle and Lois preceded her.
Lena, as she was known, grew up in Hanna and Cheyenne, Wyoming. Her father died when she was a youngster, and she was raised by her mother and stepfather Buford Fahnestock. She graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1952. Thereafter, while working in a Soda Fountain, she met a wild Harley riding dude, was swept off her feet, and after a prolonged engagement of 10 days, married Kenneth Medford.
Lena became the loving mother of 5 children; 4 who survive. Eldest is Inez Medford of Aurora, CO. Lucky Lena then had a string of boys- Justin of Erie, CO, Ray of Thornton, CO, Doug, who died in infancy, and Rex of Austin, TX. Lena is also the proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Lena loved to garden, paint, and work puzzles. She had a magnificent love for animals, just ask the neighbors’ dogs who were the recipients of daily treats and affection.
Besides being a devoted and loving housewife and mother, Lena had several jobs outside of the home. She worked as a nurses aid, in a flower nursery, and for many years at Eagle Claw Fishing gear.
Lena was a generous, loving and fiercely loyal woman. She was strong beyond her size- a woman who was all heart. She raised her family all over Colorado, never complaining about her station or situation in life. She simply got the task at hand done...that of wife and mother, and friend.
She spent her last days in the loving hands of The Denver Hospice. The family asks that in place of flowers; please send donations to them or your favorite charity in her name.
