Iwan is survived by his daughter, Gillian, of Aurora, CO; his brothers, Gunawan, Lokitono, Hartono, Herwindho and Ronny all of Indonesia, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Suryanto and Didi Suryadi.
He was born January 2, 1970 to Liksan Djaja and Hirawati Haidie in Cirebon, Indonesia and was the 6th son out 8 brothers. In April 1999, at the age of 29, Iwan came to the United States to catch the American dream. He began working in Vail, Colorado as a busboy until he received family friend’s help to start his education and training as a CNA.
Iwan worked most of his adult life as a CNA, sometimes working two full-time jobs at a time and taking extra shifts. He loved his work and was determined to make his patients feel comfortable, calm and happy and part of his family. So much so, that he referred to most of his patients as Grandpa and Grandma. He was well-respected by his colleagues, several of whom thought of Iwan as their brother.
Previously married, he welcomed his beautiful daughter, Gillian, in 2001, who was the most important part of his life. He enjoyed spending time with Gillian in the outdoors and visiting museums and, as a devoted father would, encourage her in school activities and studies in order to continue in college.
Iwan had a deep faith in God and community service. He became a Deacon in the Rocky Mountain Indonesian-American 7th Day Adventist Church in which he gave personal testimony about the work of God’s love while facing cancer. He will be deeply missed by his Indonesian and American family, friends, and all who knew him.
A celebration of life service will be held at the Rocky Mountain Indonesian-American 7th Day Adventist Church at 1591 South Sable Boulevard; Aurora, Colorado with Pastor Purasa Marpaung officiating. A viewing is scheduled at 2:30 PM with services following at 3:00 PM. Flowers, donations and condolences may be offered at the church.
