

Jean was born on July 27, 1927 to the parents of Carl and Ruth Esias on a farm in Iowa. She spent her childhood in Iowa and graduated from high school there. She moved to Denver after high school and worked for Sterns-Rogers and the Federal Center. She met Malcolm Mackay on a blind date. They were married in December, 1951. They had 3 children, Douglas, Pamela, and Karen. Pamela died from leukemia as a baby. After Malcolm died, Jean, her sister Dorothy, and friend Grace started their own handy craft business, the Handycraft Hut. Later Jean started her own tole painting business Jean’s Tole Hut and was extremely successful. She had her business for over 30 years. She later sold her business and continued painting well into her 80’s.
Jean loved painting, traveling, and visiting with her friends. She had traveled to England, Scotland, Japan and many cities in the United States.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Scott Madsen and her son and daughter-in-law Douglas and Denise Mackay. She has 4 grandchildren, Christian, Elle, Holly, and Kevin. She has one step-grandchild, Derek. She loved her family, her cats, and her friends. We all loved her very much and she will be missed dearly. May God bless her and may she rest in peace.
