Johanna (Joy) Margrietha Smit, 70, passed away on March 22, 2019 in Englewood, Colorado. She was born on October 8, 1948 in Netherlands. The Smit family immigrated to Salt Lake City, USA when Joy was 1 year old. Her family was one of the charter members of the First Christian Reformed in Salt Lake City.
In 1964 the family moved to Denver, Colorado where Joy graduated from Denver Christian High School in 1967. Her first post-high school job was working at Bethesda Sanitarium in Denver. The bulk of her career was spent working in accounts payable for several firms in the Denver area, including Coast-to-Coast, the Archdiocese of Denver, and an ambulance firm. She also was an in-home caregiver for Mr. and Mrs. King, who were clients of The University Hills Nursing Home.
Joy enjoyed needlepoint, reading, bowling, and watching TV Westerns on Saturdays, but one of her biggest pleasures was talking with people.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gay Smit, and 3 of her brothers, Lee, Pete and Bill. She is survived by her sister Ina Smit, her brother Cal, her sisters-in-law, Faye Smit, Marie Smit and Connie Smit, 10 nieces and nephews, and 5 great-nieces and -nephews.
