Raised in Pulaski, Virginia, and Charleston, West Virginia, she married her first husband, James Bonnett, in 1950 and had two children, Steven Douglas and Diana Lynn. In 1955 she married her second husband, Harold Eugene Goodholm, her lifelong companion of 50 years, and had two more children, Kristina Louise and Jon Eric.
With Steve, Diana, and Kristina in tow, Kitty and Harold left West Virginia intending to go to Texas where Harold could advance his career as a design engineer in the burgeoning aerospace industry. Stopping in Colorado along the way, he found employment with Martin Marietta and they settled down in Colorado instead, where Jon was born. They never did make it to Texas – although during their 50 years of marriage they found themselves in California, New York, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Utah before retiring and returning to Colorado.
Throughout Kitty’s life she enjoyed filming and photographing family and nature, camping and four-wheeling with friends, She loved bowling and did extensive work in genealogy, becoming a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in the process, an organization for women who are directly descended from a person involved in supporting the American Revolution, for which she was immensely proud. In addition, as her family and friends came to find out, she was bilingual, being fluent in English as well as sarcasm and clever comebacks.
Kitty was preceded in death by her husband Harold, and her two sons, Steven and Jon. She is survived by her older brother Kenneth Smith (Mary), daughters Diana Kent (Darrel) and Kristina Houde (Rudy), daughters-in law Carol Goodholm and Helen Goodholm, along with eleven (11) grand-children Michelle, Chris, Nicole, Jonathan, Jessica, Erin, Adam, Matt, Ryan, Alex, and Miriam and eleven (11) awesome great grand-children.
She spent her final 10 years at St. Andrews Village, where she made many new friends and was lovingly cared for in her later years. Loved by family and friends, those of us remaining behind release her soul to join Harold, Steven, and Jon. Until we meet again, we send Kitty on her way by saying ‘See you later, alligator!’, or as her oldest grand-child would say, ‘Toodaloo, Toodles, and Weder Day!’
A visitation for Kitty will be held Sunday, February 18, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Olinger Hampden Mortuary & Cemetery, 8600 East Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), 8720 E. Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80220.
