Leilani ‘Lani’ Rene Craig, aged 51, entered eternal rest on March 3, 2021 in Richmond, Texas. Leilani was born in Aurora, Colorado on January 11, 1970. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Robert and Katharina Krout, her brother Tanner Joseph Davis, and her uncle Joseph (Cheryl) Krout.

Lani’s passions included baking delicious cupcakes and cookies, staying active with daily workouts and trips to the pool for a relaxing swim, enjoying a nice glass of wine surrounded by family and friends, taking long walks at sunrise with her beloved dogs Star, Jaxson and Trooper, yelling at the television when The Dallas Cowboys played subpar (as usual), eating whipped cream from the can, cuddling with the family cat Dallas, dancing and singing, and playing card and board games. Leilani had an infectious laugh with a beautiful smile and everyone around her couldn’t help but laugh with her. She was strong in her devotion to living a life of faith and patriotism.

In 1988 Leilani joined the Army National Guard in Colorado to pursue a profession in nursing. While she was there, she met the love of her life, Tom. She received her LPN in 1991 while in the Army National Guard. In 1996 she received her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing, with honor, from The Community College of Denver and received her RN license. After relocating to Virginia with her family she began her 16-year tenure at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital where she received an Excellence in Nursing award in 2009. In 2015 Leilani graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Liberty University. Helping others was an ongoing passion and joy for Leilani and she loved to strengthen and enrich the lives of every patient she encountered.

Leilani married Tom Craig on July 27, 1990 in Aurora, Colorado. In February 1992 they welcomed their daughter Brittenae into the world. Lani is survived by her husband and daughter, her mother Rosemary (Mike) Davis, siblings Brenda (Joe) Ferguson and Brad (Cheri) Davis, cousins Lanea (Glen) Tonack and Corey Krout, mother-in-law Diana Rice, brother-in-law Jeff (Jennifer) Craig, brother-in-law Scott Craig, sister-in-law Shari Craig and all her loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

If family and friends desire, Leilani’s family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Fairfax Community Church Resource Center at 11451 Braddock Road, Fairfax, Virginia 23033, or a charity of your choice, in her honor.

Tom, I am so saddened and shocked to hear the news of Leilani’s passing. My heart is breaking for you and Brittenae. I don’t know what happened, but I do know we lost and angel here on earth way too soon!! Of all my nursing buddies from the past, Leilani has always stayed in touch and I feel so blessed to have been able to see her last year for the first time in ages. We were all supposed to get together soon, that was the plan....life is so precious and so fragile. We are thinking of you guys and praying for your family.

With love,
Courtney and Kendall

I find it the most difficult to find words that express my love and thoughts of you. It feels like a million years ago, yet just like yesterday when we met and became friends. Your beautiful laugh, smile, endless kindness and generous nature, the love of animals and a die-hard Cowboy fan. (Never held that against you.) 😊 I am truly blessed to have known you and share in a small chapter of your life. You will always live in my heart and I will forever miss you. until we meet again in heaven. Fly high in eternal peace Lani. Love you. Marcie

Lani was a second mom to me growing up. My moms sister/ best friend. We gave each other nicknames that we agreed would’ve been way cooler then the ones we had. She call me Elle and I called her Le. She will be deeply missed but I know she will always be by my side looking out for me.
Love you forever Le

Leilani was such a beautiful and sweet friend. So caring to everyone. I love & miss her so very much. We had some fun girls days out. Always enjoyed those days as well as our calls and messages throughout the year and fun football talk during games also. Rest in Paradise sweet friend. 💗

You will be sorely missed Leilani. We have had so many good times together. Football games, puzzles, hikes, grill outs, and dueling piano bars. Thank you for the great memories. You, Tom, and Brittenae treated us so well when we moved to northern Virginia and you really became our family out there. We are so grateful for the love and kindness that you always shared with us. It's so hard to believe you are gone. We will always cherish the wonderful times and will continue to make new memories with Tom and Brittenae in your honor. Love you lots!
