Leo Edmund Haas

Born in 1947 to Fabian and Catherine, Leo grew up on his family’s farm in Illinois alongside his siblings Mary, Joe, Margaret, Helen, Marilyn, and Dennis. Those early years instilled in him a strong work ethic and a lifelong appreciation for the land. After high school, he attended St Ambrose University, and later enlisted in the United States Army.

In 1973, Leo married, Cristelle. Together they built a life, raising their family while living in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, North Carolina, Kansas, and ultimately making Colorado their home.

Leo spent most of his professional career in the agricultural industry before he and Cristelle began a small fundraising business together. The change of pace allowed them to enjoy life in Colorado surrounded by family and lifelong friends.

Leo is survived by his son, Nathan Haas; his daughter, Jessica Trueblood; his son-in-law, Ted Trueblood; and his treasured grandson, Jack, who brought him endless joy. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cristelle, in 2019.

More than anything, Leo cherished time with the people he loved. He and his grandson shared countless adventures together. He appreciated the simple pleasures in life—a glass of good Irish whiskey, an exceptional meal, great music, and meaningful conversation. On many afternoons, you could find him on his back patio with jazz music playing too loud, tending to his garden, reading the newspaper, or simply enjoying a quiet Colorado day. He was an avid reader who followed current events, loved movies and live music, and was always curious about the world around him.

Though often quiet by nature, Leo possessed a thoughtful spirit. He was introspective, a careful listener, and someone who valued deep conversations over small talk. His kindness, wisdom, gentle humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A private celebration of Leo’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those who knew him to share a meal with loved ones, listen to some great jazz, or spend a little extra time in a garden.
