

Leonard Albrecht, a generous, hard-working, kind-hearted, resilient, and humorous man, passed away on October 22, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on July 11, 1947, at St. Mary Corwin in Pueblo, Colorado, Leonard was the beloved son of Joseph Neal Albrecht and Ella Pearl Albrecht (Merrill). He grew up alongside his siblings, Joseph Anton Albrecht and Mary Lou Trapp (Albrecht), and graduated from East High School in Pueblo.
In 1964, Leonard enlisted in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1966. His career was marked by dedication and hard work, beginning as a paperboy and later working in the mines at Climax. He joined the Pueblo Fire Department with his brother and cousin. After an injury ended his firefighting career, Leonard turned his childhood hobby into a passion for numismatics. He became the Director and Executive Director of the ANACS, American Numismatic Association, and was a nationally recognized expert in coin grading and authentication. Leonard contributed to numerous publications, including “Coin World” and “Numismatic News,” and was a life member of the American Numismatic Association and the Silver Dollar Round Table.
Leonard married Barbara Joyce Foster on June 15, 1968, in Buena Vista, Colorado. They shared 55 years of marriage until her passing on June 11, 2023. Leonard is now reunited with his beloved wife, parents, brother Joseph (Shirley) Albrecht, brother-in-law Morse “Mo” (Janice) Braden, sister-in-law Phyllis (John) Padilla, and nephews Pat Trapp and Joe (Jan) Albrecht Jr. He is survived by his daughters, Tracy (Vito) Ortiz and Tami (Brian) Rikhoff; grandchildren, Megan (Dylan) Lauffer, Morgan Rikhoff, Bailey Ortiz, Gianna Ortiz, and Gabrielle Ortiz; great-grandchildren, Colter and Nora Lauffer; sister, Mary Lou (Ivan) Trapp; brother-in-law John (Phyllis) Padilla; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Leonard will be greatly missed by many loving family members and friends. He is also survived by his beloved Abbie, the cat.
Leonard had a deep love for rare coin collecting, gardening, teaching his daughters math and the value of life and family, camping, and fishing. He spent countless hours fishing alone or with family at his favorite spots, including the ponds by Salida, Creede, Taylor, 4-Mile, and Blue Mesa Reservoirs.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 2, 2025, at 11:00 am in the Ponderosa Room at Olinger Hampden Mortuary & Cemetery, located at 8600 East Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231. A Reception will follow from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the same location. Another Celebration of Life will be held on November 3rd 2025, 2pm, with a reception to follow. at Southwest Church of Christ, 1635 S. Pueblo Blvd, Pueblo, CO 81005. Leonard will be laid to rest with his beloved wife in Buena Vista, CO. In lieu of flowers please make donations to a charity or shelter in Len's name.
