Lewayne, known to her family and friends as Lee, is survived by her husband Steven Roe, her son Ian Roe, her brother Thomas Tompkins, as well as her grandchildren, nieces, nephew, and numerous godchildren. She is predeceased by her father, Lawrence Tompkins, and her mother, Oleta (Kellum) Tompkins.
Lee was born on May 16, 1950 in Denver, Colorado. Early in her life she moved with her family to Bismarck, North Dakota, and Billings, Montana before her mother moved the family back to Denver following the untimely passing of her father. After a brief teaching career, she went to work for the phone company where she held numerous positions over the course of more than 30 years.
Lee had many passions in life, and will be remembered most for her devotion to her faith and her family, singing, quilting, and her volunteer work with local politics. She maintained her love of teaching in everything she did, including giving guitar lessons, leading training sessions at work, and teaching in the religious education program at St. Dominic’s Catholic Parish. After retiring from the phone company, she was able to spend time with her grandchildren and devote even more of her time to the church; serving as the Parish Archivist, directing the children’s Christmas choir and Christmas play, and taking a more active role in the religious education program. A Rosary Service will be held on Thursday, January 27th at 7PM and the Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 28th at 10AM, both at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 3053 West 29th Avenue, Denver, CO 80211. The funeral service will be livestreamed online, and can be accessed via the YouTube link at https://stdominicdenver.org/. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
