She was born and raised in Cambridge, Nebraska to Kirby and Almeda Kester. Norma was the youngest of their 3 daughters. She married Keith Carter from Holbrook, Nebraska on April 20, 1947.
They moved to Denver, along with many of their friends and siblings. Keith joined the Denver Fire Department in May 1951 where he worked until his retirement in January 1984. Norma and Keith raised their 4 children in southeast Denver until Keith’s passing in 1999. He was always at her side. Norma lived at Heritage Eagle Bend until 2014. She then resided at Lincoln Meadows Senior Living until her passing.
She is survived by her four children; Kirby and his wife Molly, Kathy and her husband Doug Whittenburg, Ken and his wife Tracey, and Karen and her husband Daniel Travis.
She is also survived by 8 grandchildren; Andy & Jack Carter, Kelly Hodges & Jeff Whittenburg, Derek Meixsell & Madison Carter, and Ryan & Chris Rowe. In addition, she has 6 great-grandchildren; Carter & Piper Hodges, Grace & Elle Whittenburg and Ayden & McKenzy Meixsell.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Keith in 1999 as well as her sisters Margaret and Leanore.
Norma was a caring, devoted, thoughtful and kindhearted wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma who lived her life with grace and humility. She will always be in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her and love her.
