Milton, as he was known, was born July 19th 1934 in Denver, Colorado, to parents Douglas Dillon Osburn and Florence LaVon Doubleday. In 1944 the family moved to Holyoke, Colorado, where he finished high school and met Colleen Speicher. They married in 1953 and after his service in the US Army, including the Berlin crisis of 1961, they moved to Castle Rock and he began teaching there in 1963. They had three children, Lynn, LaLani and Loy. Following divorce, he married Darjean E. Johnson in 1982, and they celebrated 43 years together, blending a family with her boys, Kent and Keith. Milton began teaching 6th grade at the Cantril school in Castle Rock, then moved to teach industrial arts at the new junior high in 1967. He retired from that school in 1990.
From the time that he moved to Castle Rock, he wanted to bring a Nazarene church to town. His persistence and hard work culminated in 1990 with the establishment of The Connection Church of the Nazarene, where both he and Darjean tirelessly poured themselves into the church. There, they gave of themselves in any and every way they could, for almost 30 years.
Milton is survived by one brother-in-law, 5 children of the blended family, 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Comfort Keepers of Castle Rock, and Abode Hospice, for their special care and assistance. Services for Milton’s family and friends will be held at Olinger Hampden Mortuary and Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Connection Church of the Nazarene, 1300 Park St, Castle Rock.
