Born March 23, 1925, Passed October 23, 2025
Having lived 100 years and 7 months, she accomplished a lot in her life.
Born in Scottsbluff Nebraska, she lived a very modest and hard-working life: not rich but always with a roof over her head and food on the table.
As a child she worked in the sugar beet fields, collected chicken eggs, milked cows and goats, and walked 3 miles, through fields and fences, to school no matter the weather.
At 16 she married Don Taylor, who was then 21 years old. As Don worked long hours, Rachel was the homemaker and raised their 5 children Jerry, Patty, Charles, Jeff, and Tony.
She managed to attain her GED (General Education Degree) June 10, 1980, at age 55, and received her Beauticians License June 10, 1988, at age 63. She worked at My Place of Beauty and Sears Beauty Salon for many years.
Rachel loved painting and sold many of her painting at sidewalk sales in shopping centers and by request, and she gave many to family, friends, and visitors from different countries: China, Japan, Germany, and South America. She loved painting and arranging flowers and did arrangements at Fairmount Cemetery. She also made and sold macramé creations at Larimer Square and Estes Park.
She and Don loved fishing, and Rachel also went with him on rockhounding and gold panning adventures. She was a great German cook and loved working in her yard adorned with Roses, Irises, and Carnations. She also loved going to plays at the Fox Theater, listening to the Aurora Singers, and playing loud classical music from KVOD on Tony’s stereo, while painting or working outside.
Rachel started writing poems and illustrating them based on her outdoor experiences and a family tragedy, one was published in a poetry anthology.
She often babysat her grandkids and tried to teach all of them her many crafts. She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
