Raymond H. Haugen
December 8, 1928 – July 3, 2018
Raymond H. Haugen, age 89, of Denver, Colorado passed away on Tuesday July 3, 2018. Raymond was born December 8, 1928.
Raymond was born in Denver, Colorado and attended West High School. Ray met his wife, Lois, at a bakery location in West Denver. He was so struck by her, that he found her phone number and called her. Ray married the love of his life, Lois, on February 23, 1950. Together, they cherished 68 years of marriage.
Ray was a firefighter with the Denver Fire Department for 30 years, retiring from Station 13 as Captain in 1982.
Ray was an avid sports fan. He excelled as a fast pitch softball pitcher and as a youth coach. He could be found cheering on his favorite teams. Every year, he held season tickets to the Broncos and was lucky enough to attend three Super Bowls. He also had season tickets to the Colorado Rockies, and in the later years he never missed watching the Rockies on TV.
In his down time, Ray could be found playing golf, or surrounded by friends playing cards. He found peace with nature at his cabin in the mountains.
Raymond supported his community in so many ways. He enjoyed cooking for his fire station and serving his specialty meals such as spaghetti and chili. On his days off, he drove a TB testing vehicle. He was president of Maltese Cross Manor, a non-profit that provided living for seniors since 1966.
He was a wonderful husband, beloved father and grandfather, and a friend to many. He will be missed dearly by a multitude of people.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lois A. Haugen; his son Rob (Vickie) Haugen; granddaughters, Ashley (Jon) Comstock and Brittany (JJ) Flanagan, 2 great-grandchildren, Mikah and Jack, and 2 siblings, Ella McCarthy and Halver Haugen.

I was fortunate to have worked with Ray. He and Lois helped me through some difficult times as a single father.
Ray invited me and my four children to his home at Christmas for dinner and gifts for the kids. In summer, we were invited to uncle Ray's cabin for fun and games. As Ray would say, things " were pretty good".
