Born in New Orleans, Sharon grew up in Kenner Louisiana. She attended parochial schools as a child, graduating from Grace King High School in 1979, followed by enrollment at the University at New Orleans for part time studies as she worked at East Jefferson Hospital before marriage.
Sharon married her love Bruce C. Autry on July 17, 1982 and fulfilled her longtime dream of becoming a mother to her four children Melissa, Mary, Michael and Maggie. When her youngest child entered kindergarten in 1996, she reignited her dream of becoming a schoolteacher, working first as a devoted teacher’s aide for 10 years.
Sharon graduated from Western Governors University in 2007, and then worked diligently as an elementary School teacher in Fort Bend ISD until she retired in 2018 due to her increasing health concerns. Her family, friends, and colleagues will lovingly remember her for her passion and devotion to her cherished roles as a wife, mother, grandmother and teacher. She never gave up on those who needed her most. All will miss her unique sense of humor, charming laugh, and tenacious drive.
Throughout her lifetime, she was a talented artist, avid bulldog lover, and accomplished athlete, spending many hours as a recreational swimmer and long-distance runner, successfully running the Mardi Gras Marathon across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 38 years Bruce C. Autry; daughter Melissa Ann Autry (Stephen Fucik); daughter Mary Autry Ingram (Joey Ingram); son Michael Autry; daughter Maggie Autry (Erik Andrews); grandchildren, Carlolina, Coby, and Colt Ingram; parents Chester and Marylou Mayeaux; siblings, Susan Drury (Lionel), Gary Mayeaux (Rhonda), Allan Mayeaux, and Randall Mayeaux (Dana) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Sharon was preceded in death by her brother Ronald Anthony Mayeaux; grandparents Ned and Mary Louise Falgoust, and Talisma and Lula Mayeaux as well as her adoring bulldogs Sophie, Henry, Lola, Vicky, and Gumbo.
