Sigrun Asa Stefancic

Born on November 11, 1938, in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland, Sigrún grew up alongside her three siblings: Bjossi, Vigdis, and Bogga. On January 7, 1961, she married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” F. Stefancic, in Reykjavík, Iceland. Together, they lived in many different places before settling in Colorado Springs, the city they proudly called home.

Sigrún dedicated 20 years of her life as a beloved librarian at Bristol Elementary School in Colorado Springs, instilling a love of reading to countless children. Beyond her work, she lived life with vibrant enthusiasm. She had a passion for knitting, crocheting, baking, and bowling, but her adventurous spirit was best captured in her love for hiking—summiting Pikes Peak for the first time at the age of 55. She was very faithful and passionate in her stewardship at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where she had many friends with whom she shared her love of Christ.

Sigrun was truly a unique person-always cheerful, positive, and full of a rich joy for life. A true Icelandic Superwoman, she possessed an extraordinary gift for generosity. Warm, smiling and ever-helpful, Sigrun made everyone feel deeply welcome in her presence. These beautiful qualities are among the many things we will always cherish and remember about her.

While it hurts deeply to say goodbye, her family remains endlessly grateful for the years spent with her as a sister, mother, Amma (grandma), and friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Stefancic, and her cherished son, Robert "Bobby" F. Stefancic Jr.

She is survived by her son, Michael, and his wife, Michelle; her two siblings, Bogga and Vigdis, along with many dear nieces, nephews, and extended family members; her cherished grandchildren: Mason, Maxwell, Jaime, Justin, and Ginny; and her great-grandchildren, Lucas and Jaxon.

She will live on in our hearts and be with us wherever we go.
