Steven William Winter was born January 22, 1949, to Samuel and Ruth Winter in Lincoln, NE. The oldest of four sons, he helped out on the family farm from an early age. After attending Linn High School, Steve was drafted to fight in the Vietnam War. The United States of America awarded him a Bronze Star Medal for his courageous actions during this time. After his return to the states, he settled in Colorado. Steve got into fire protection sales and met Ranelle Wacha. They married on September 22, 1984. Soon after, they welcomed a son, Shane and then a daughter Jenna (Tirrell).
Steve’s greatest joy in life came from his role as a grandfather. The love that he had for Nathan II, Sebastian, Blake, Oliver and Leyna was unmatched. This love carried Steve through many rough times and gave him the will to keep fighting. Steven William Winter passed peacefully on October 26, 2022 surrounded by many loved ones. Steve is preceded in death by his mother, Ruth, father Sam, and stepson Nathan Kalkorst I. He is survived by his wife Ranelle, Son Shane, Daughter Jenna, Brothers, Tom, Randy and Scott and his grandchildren.
