January 21st, 1935 - October 7th, 2025
We mourn the loss of our dear “Granda”, as he was known to everyone in our immediate and extended family. Tom was a gifted and self-made man that came from humble beginnings, and who grew up without a father, to eventually become of one the most recognized experts within the world of vintage Porsche restoration in the U.S. and Europe.
He was devoted to his dearest Lynn (or “Gambie” as he called her) to whom he was married for 68 years. He was, most certainly, the patriarch of the Scott family, which includes his three daughters Stacie (Chris), Lorraine (Michael), and Sallie along with eight grandchildren (Rylan (Hadley), Victoria (Max), Sean (Emery), Katie (Tony), Nikki, Alex (Amanda), Lily, and Noah, along with three great grandchildren, Easton, Monroe Jane, and Kali.
His life was one of service, first to his country, then to his family, and over many years to his clients. He attended ROTC at University of Texas, El Paso (“UTEP”) and later served four years in the U.S. Army (from 1957 to 1961) as a helicopter pilot and was stationed in Korea in the early 1960s. He attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the Army’s Transportation Corps.
It was at UTEP that he met and fell in love with his darling Lynn Berquist, a farm girl, from Niles, Michigan. Although an unlikely pair from different backgrounds, they were married in 1957. All who knew them as a couple also knew that they adored each other and were inseparable companions throughout the 68 years that they shared until his death.
Tom and Lynn raised three strong, smart, and independent women who are all successful in their own right. His daughters will all attest that as their father while growing up; Tom always concerned himself with ensuring that they were given the best opportunity to attend college, to make their way, and seek their own path(s) in life. He was proud of them and wanted them near, even in his final hours.
In 1984, Tom was one of the Co-Chairman (and founders) of the Colorado Concours’ de Elegance and Exotic Sports Car show, an event held each summer on the grounds of Arapahoe Community College in Littleton. The show is a benefactor for Ability Connection Colorado which provides support for families of disabled children across Colorado. Over the past 40 years, the event has grown from a few dozen cars to well over 400, and has raised over $1 million, to date.
Perhaps his greatest professional achievement includes being a three-time Manhattan Trophy winner at the National Porsche Parade events. Among other models, his world-class restoration of dozens of vintage Porsche 356 models over the years is, indeed, legendary. Many of their closest friends were garnered from the many clubs and organizations of which they were an active part for almost 40 years which included the Rocky Mountain Region Porsche Club of America.
He was a wonderful husband, a supportive father, and an admired grandfather who counted on, and looked forward to family events, whether spur of the moment, or planned for special occasions. His daughters and close friends will all remember him for his wit, his child-like giggle, his dry humor and his never-ending quest to uncover the funniest little intricacies of life through a well-place pun. As his family, we can hardly envision our lives without him. He loved every one of us and his loss is unfathomable. We will keep him close to our hearts.
May God Bless you Granda as you enter his kingdom. You have run the race with love, humor, and integrity. You are one of a kind and we will miss you until we see you again.
