I met Verneda many years ago, when I became Gail's best friend in eighth grade.  She was such a sweet person and loving mother to all her family.
The last time that I talked to her on the phone, she still remembered me.  I was inquiring about my friend Gail, but so sadly she had already left this world so I could no longer get in touch with her.  I was so sorry to find out that Verneda is also gone now. May she rest in peace in her heavenly home.

Being the fifth child in line, you look up to the siblings ahead of you.  I have the memory of many things that mom set the example to share, and give. She set the example for all in the family.  She was an organizer, and gave each responsibility and tasks to complete for each child while growing up. For the girls, we helped in the kitchen, set the table as ordered, prepared salads, assisted her in getting the mashed potatoes creamy enough to eat with the delicious roasted meats or what ever was on the menu.  Keeping our rooms in order, helped keep the yard neat and picked the dandelions, cheerful little bouquet to give to a mom who knew that the cheerful colored flowers only brought more weeds to the lawn! :-) She encouraged us to attend church and Sunday services.  A place where we all learned to listen to the lessons of life through Scriptures.  Allowing her home to be a service and a means for children, youth, and adults to learn about the Lord Jesus Christ with the many Bible Clubs, and Bible Studies.  Individual trust in the Lord Jesus Christ increased individual faith in God.  The application to trust in God's Word was encouraged.  Mom's caring way, selflessness, was an example to learn from.  She was quiet, thoughtful, and knew how to work each varied abilities of her children and grand children.  Sharing her chocolate chip cookies, brownies, Root Beer Floats, popcorn, pizzas and the list goes on even when we all used to decorate the Refrigerated cookies shaped with various Christmas designs each season. Mom did learn to drive when dad was down with health problems. She tackled that task to learn to drive in town to pay bills and pick up her groceries...She had developed friends in the neighborhood who looked up to her friendly ways.  She would have others ask her about her yellow canary as I called her pinto.  Yes, her good friends shared in driving on long outings away from home. Many friends from her former church and neighborhood kept watch over her and helped her in many various ways around her home.  To have a friend she showed herself friendly.  Her friends have shared good thoughts about her friendships and relationships. Mom was a self motivator, kept on keeping on.  I saw that trait in our oldest sister when she had health conditions slowing her down. She kept on keeping on. Mom shared the melody of life in her heart, others reflected.  Well,  I could keep on but, her children were blessed to learn from her example...she was a listener and prayed for needs as they came.  She was ready and waiting to go Home to Heaven.  God took her in his appointed time.  She is at peace. We can look forward to seeing her and dad, again.

I am Cherri's husband, Bill Kidd. Just over 40 years ago I met and married the love of my life. Because of where we lived, it was several months before I met mom & dad Headriick. I was scared to death, but my fear was short lived. Particularly with Mom. We bonded almost immediately. I was curious where the strength that I found in my new bride originated. It was clear that it came from both Herb & Verneda, but I think mostly from mom. My belief was confirmed after the loss of her husband. Up to that point, mom had never had to drive or deal with paying the bills or pretty much anything outside the home. Her hands had been totally filled with a house full of little Headricks. To anyone that knows the family, and as I found out, this job was not exactly a walk in the park.  Mom NEVER lost faith!  She took on all her new responsibilities. After several  tries, she was given a driver's license based on a promise to the testing officer that she would only use it to go to the doctor, the grocery store, church and that she would NEVER get on the freeway! She went on to learn how to handle her finances, become totally independent and remain active in her faith and with the church. Thru all these changes in her life she became a hero to me. Cherri often teased me that she liked me better than her. I doubt that, but I do think think that she knew I loved her. I took every opportunity to cheer her up. She once told Cherri that a man at church was, let us say, interested! I sent her flowers for Valentine's day with a note saying "A secret admirer". We talked to her several days later and she was really excited about her gift. The day before church the following week, I called and asked if she received my flowers?  After all, I really AM a secret admirer (well, maybe not so secret). Our youngest son, Robert, had the opportunity to drive by Denver once and pick her up on his way home when he was in the service. Along the way, Robert managed a get a speeding ticket. When the officer was walking away, mom told Robert, "He was cute".  Robert responded "GRAMMA!". Robert still talks about that trip with a smile and we're sure she enjoyed it as much as he. Over the years, no matter where we lived, mom was always there. We did the best we could for her too. Like most of the Headricks, she was hard headed and stubborn, but she loved  her family, never lost her faith, was an inspiration to me and we will miss her until we all meet again. I love you mom!!
