February 10, 1953 Virgil and Marion were married in Victoria, Kansas at the St. Fidelis Church, better known as the Cathedral of the Plains. They then moved to Denver, Colorado where they raised their family of two children Dean Lee (deceased) and Beverly Ann (Seidel). Virgil was a devoted Catholic, husband, and father to his family. He loved his family and enjoyed socializing with them, friends and neighbors.

Virgil's hobbies included gardening, he loved to grow vegetables and sharing his bounty with family, friends and neighbors. He also loved fishing, mainly in the Gunnison area and on vacation to Alaska and Hawaii. He enjoyed working on his family Genealogy with his sisters and other family members, and sharing information about his family, siblings and the farm where he grew up in Kansas.
