Rudye Virginia Robinson was born on June 22, 1911, in Union County, Kentucky and was 102 years old when she passed away on March 16, 2014 at The Denver Hospice. She was the youngest of six children having had four sisters and a brother. She was never fond of her given first name and was always known as Virginia.
Virginia graduated from high school just prior to her 17th birthday and was the highest achieving student on record at her small school in Boxville, Kentucky. She loved history, English, geography and reading poetry. As a child, Virginia enjoyed playing the piano and shared her lifelong passion for her Lord and music by playing the organ at church services for many, many years.
Virginia married Palmer Weller on November 28, 1936 and their son was born in 1945. The family moved to Colorado in the 1950’s and she purchased their home in 1960. Traveling became one of her favorite activities following her retirement from Blue Cross Blue Shield in 1976. Virginia made her way to Hong Kong, Japan, Israel, Bangkok, Mexico, and Alaska and she took many excursions throughout the United States.
After 58 years of marriage, she was widowed in 1995. Virginia remained in her home until at age101 when she fell and broke her arm. She then moved into her son’s home in Aurora where she was comforted by the loving care of her beloved daughter-in-law.
She had been a talented cook and gardener and continued to be a highly skilled crossword puzzle solver. Virginia maintained her sharp wit up until a few days before her passing.
Above all, Virginia loved her family. She treasured her many nieces and nephews and especially her son, two grandsons, five great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Her generosity, kindness, wisdom and unconditional love touched everyone she knew. She will remain in our hearts forever.
