William David Petersmith
July 15, 1925 – January 4, 2019
William David Petersmith was born in Denver, Colorado on July 15, 1925 to William and Daisy Petersmith. When he was young the family moved to Kansas where William spent his youth helping on the farm, chasing rabbits, and enjoying his time with his 2 siblings. From Kansas they moved to Iowa, and finally William found himself back in Denver. He loved Colorado, because unlike the plains of Kansas and Iowa, in Colorado you could hike in wilderness areas, horseback ride in the mountains, backpack and camp. He met and married the love of his life, Malta “Petie” Petefish, and together they raised their three children, making sure they always spent time together as a family. In fact, William would plan and execute the family vacation that they took every year. He was an incredibly devoted husband, and father, and later, grandfather. William retired early from Gates Rubber Company in Denver, as a machinist. He took on a new title after his machinist days, Awesome Grandpa. He was there to help his children with school pick up and drop off and babysitting for his grandchildren. He was the babysitter to go to. In fact, as a gift, his family presented him with a wooden sign that said Happy Pappy Day Care Center. He kept the sign, and it hung above his chair. William loved to woodwork, and made many exceptional pieces, so a sign made of his favorite materials, with wording of something he enjoyed, made him very happy. William passed away on January 4th. He was 93 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and his beloved wife Petie. He is survived by his 3 children, David, Coralee and Twana; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. William will be deeply and fondly missed. A service will be held later at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
