Wilma was such a caring, loving, open hearted woman to anyone including strangers, and I am glad I got to call her my gramdma! I have so many memories of my grandma. The stories she shared with me the most are of her living in Italy and Hawaii. She always had different stories to share. I remember she would always tell me about cooking Holiday dinners for many army families, all crammed together a tiny place, with the worlds smallest kitchen. 

She always made sure to make it to EVERY function my brother, Johnathen, and I had going on like sports, Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts. She was the happiest to make it to my high school graduation.

One thing I will always remember about my grandma is how much she LOVED to crochet! Every week was a new crochet project for her. Sometimes even twice a week because she would get done with them so quick. It was to the point she had about 20 crochet dolls and didn't know what to do with them so she gave them to all the girls in the family, and still had some left over. She made many of blanks as well.

I will always remember Wilma as a kind and generous person who was very welcoming to me whenever I would visit. We could sit and chat for hours about anything and she would make it seem like we were just catching up even though it might have been years. She remembered little details like each of my kids' ages and birthdays, even though there are so many to remember, haha.

Growing up, I have memories of playing games, like Canasta, for hours which are some of my most cherished times. I always felt comfortable in her presence. She was always willing to help out when and where it was needed. 

I always remember Wilma working on a craft project. She was very talented. She made some beautiful little dolls and gave them to me and my daughters. They are some of my prized possessions and will keep her spirit with me forever. 

Her warm, friendly, kind heart will be truly missed and we are so grateful to have had such a wonderful example.

To my sweet Wilma Lawton.  The heavens gained an angel.   I am so blessed to have only met you last year at rehab.  We connected like best friends never separated and I  always called you my adopted Grandma.  Dairy Queen visits were great always got a different flavor and then we would plead with the nurses to not test your blood.  I will miss you always but now you are no longer suffering and running free.  Love you Dayna Thelen.

I have many fond memories of Wilma. Of all the times when Betty and I would go visit her, when we entered the room I would say an extended Hi Wilma. She would always look at me, smile, and say Hi David. One thing that I will always remember was the fun the three of us had when we would go out to play Bingo at one of the local Bingo Halls. Wilma would have anywhere from nine to twelve Bingo cards laid out in front of her and never miss a number.  That always amazed me because, it was all I could do to work with TWO cards and I would miss a number every now and then.  Wilma would call me form time to time to come over to fix little things around her house. I was always happy to help her with anything that she needed as she was always there for our family. She told on more than on occasion that she considered me more like a brother to her. Wilma, I already miss your smile and laugh. There will always be a place in my heart for you. I Love You, David

For  me there are so many memories.   That what I will say the angels must of needed her.  Because she will be missed greatly on earth.

When we lived in Hawaii in 1978 my mom wanted to learn how to decorate cakes. She would make the most elaborate cakes for any celebration or just because. In Italy her friend Celestina was amazed at her talents and always asked for Disney cakes. My mom always happily made them for her. She was known in Italy as the cake lady and would make them for anyone who asked. 

My Mom always wanted a big family. She always said her and my dad wanted 3 kids. They were only able to have me. However, that did not stop my mom from becoming a second mom to my best friend when we were 14, Stephanie. She loved having her spend the weekends at our house. We were two hungry teenagers and she would make us her homemade wontons, tacos, pizza (yes all in one night) and always have our Dr. Pepper. Steph and I would think it was cool and funny to have burping contests. Mom would tolerate it for a little while and would eventually always say, "Girls I think that's enough right now!"

My Mom and Dad were married for 18 years and she always claimed he was the love her life.

My Mom's favorite place in the world was Italy. We lived there from 1982-1985. Even though my dad was in the Air Force at that time we did not live on a military base, we lived in a small town outside of Verona Italy called Pescatina. We had a gorgeous villa with a beautiful rose garden that she lovingly took care of. We had an Italian family take us in and made us family. I remember fondly celebrating one of my mom's birthday's at her house. While living there we would travel everywhere including Venice. My parents believed I should experience everything I possibly can. My mom was also known for her elaborate Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. She would tell my dad to make sure to invite all the single Airmen to our house, because no one should be alone during the holidays. Should would make 3-4 turkeys and hams in the tiniest kitchen I ever saw. We would have an open house with usually 40-50 people in and out. My mom always knew how to make everyone of them feel welcome!

My Mom might not have been able to get to know her newest grandson Deegan as well as her other two grandkids, but she still loved him just the same. She loved to have him come visit her and he would climb up in her bed beside to her to talk to her. 

My Mom loved all her grandkids Ashleigh, Johnathen and Deegan. She was instrumental in raising her two oldest Ashleigh and Johnathen. She was at any school event, sports games and scouting events. She would always smile whenever she saw them and loved them more than they will ever know. I think my mom was the happiest when she became a grandma for the first time.

Memories of Aunt Wilma
Going over to Aunt Wilma's house on Halloween. There was always a five dollar bill waiting for us. She used to always be so happy to see us in our princess dresses. The sparkles from the dresses are probably still engraved in the couch cushions.
 She would make us Velveeta mac n' cheese. And she would have to make a second box because we ate it so quickly.
Aunt Wilma was so kind. She always had a smile on her face. Whenever we would come over to her house she was watching cooking shows. She loved Cake Boss. 

                                                      Memories of Aunt Wilma
     I remember going over to Aunt Wilma's  on Halloween and her inviting us into her loving home. She would have candy and $5 set out for us to take. She would also make us Velveeta Mac-n-cheese. I remember loving the food so much, I would go back for seconds and thirds. She was always so sweet and excited to see us in our elaborate costumes.
     Aunt Wilma was always so kind to me and my sister. She had a cute trick to tell me and my sister apart. Apparently  my sister always hugged her first when we would visit her. It made me laugh when we would see her, Haleigh would go in for a hug, and she would say "Hi Haleigh". She used to always watch our dance competitions that were streamed online. I loved receiving a good luck text before going on stage. She was always so  encouraging of me and my sister dancing.
      During the Christmas of 2016, my sister and I made a build of bear for her in Arizona. We put a message in the center of it so when she pushed the bear hand, she could hear our voices saying we loved her. It warmed my heart when she said she loved it and put it on her bed. 


Wilma was more to me than a big sister, she was my best friend. She was always there for me and my family. Wilma was my secret Santa helper when Jason and Letitia were little. I remember Wilma waking up early in the morning to go to the Chatfield Balloon Festival with me. When we went to the Murder Mystery Dinner Show with David. Wilma was Wilma Flintstone and  I was Betty Rubble. When we were growing up we were always asked if our mom liked the Flintstones. I already miss her and I know she is comfortable now in heaven with our mom. We love you Wilma always and forever. Thank you for being there for me and our family and now you can be our angel in the sky watching over us. Good Night Sweet Dreams I love you. Your baby sister.
