Bruce was the loving husband of the late Dorothy Berkowitz, beloved brother of Sheryl (the late Randall) Ames; cherished uncle to Dan (Jamie) Ames and Shelby Ames; proud great-uncle to Jackson Perkins, Maddux Ames, and Bryce Ames.
Bruce was born quoting the Three Stooges and was a lover of all forms of music, he proudly wore the “Parrothead” title and loved everything about music with the good ‘vibes’. He was a huge sports fan. He would talk non-stop about White Sox Pride, BlackHawks love, and his enjoyment of the WWE! His friends and he would drive down to watch the Sox play during their spring practices, making it a fun trip where he would be able to detour to see his beloved buffalos. Yes, I said buffalos.
His best friends always by his side, Michael McGovern, Phil Granquist, Steve Schnabel and others – these friends stood by his side as he bravely fought cancer in his last year of life. His family is forever indebted to their love and attention, helping him with his appointments, medication and other medical necessities.
Bruce will be missed by his loved ones, but will be with his wife after 14 years apart, and their beloved pets – Sheba, Aleta, and Bruce’s boy, Max.
Bruce always measured the quality of his life by positivity and friendships. For that we thank all of you for bringing joy to Bruce’s life. From the great beyond, he will for sure push a World Series win for his beloved White Sox.
Visitation will be held at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. For more information, please call (847) 824-5155.
