

A caring and devoted husband, father, brother, and treasured friend, was born on September 12, 1950, in Rosedale, Mississippi, to Louis Burrel Sr. and Mamie Burrel, both of whom preceded him in death. He was the oldest of seven siblings, his sister, Shirley Mae Robinson preceded him in death. His earthly journey came to an end on October 7, 2025, as he transitioned to a place where there is no more sorrow or pain. He was reunited with his parents, Louis and Mamie Burrel, as well as his sister, Shirley Mae Robinson.
When Charles was two years old, his parents moved the family to Chicago in search of a better life. This eventually led Charles to a career as a firefighter with the Chicago Fire Department for 33 years until he retired in 2010. Charles was fortunate to find his soulmate, Janie. They were married on August 17, 1974, sharing 51 wonderful years. Those years were full of love. Their union was blessed with two children, Janeen and Eric. The family enjoyed their cruise vacations and time spent at Myrtle Beach, as Charles found that being near the water was very peaceful. Charles never met a stranger. His cheerful and playful demeanor was infectious, attracting others to him. He was kind to many, sociable, inquisitive, candid and fashion forward. He was also well known for his excellent cooking skills. He frequently shared stories about his family. In fact, he was considered the family historian.
Charles leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories with his cherished wife, Janie Burrel, daughter, Janeen Burrel and son Eric Burrel. He is also survived by four sisters: Linda Roberts (Jimmie), Celestine Burrel, Gloria Wright (Willie), and Sherry Burrel-Badji (Abdoulaye); one brother, Louis Burrel III (Gwendolyn); two sisters-in-law: Debbie Culberson (Roy), Pamela Gibbs (Raymond); one brother-in-law, Howard James Moore Jr.; and one aunt, Katherine Fenison from Crossett, Arkansas. Additionally, he leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith". 2 Timothy 4:7.
Visitation Friday, October 17, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL 60016. Final Visitation Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with a Funeral Service beginning at 11 a.m. Entombment All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
