

Dean A. Spindler of Des Plaines since 1954. Dean A. Spindler, 85, was born March 24, 1925, in Becker, Minn., and passed away suddenly Dec. 5, 2010, at his residence. He spent his childhood in Grand Marsh, Wis. After graduating high school in 1943, he joined the Navy as a radioman on the destroyer, USS Killen. He graduated from DePaul University after meeting his beloved wife of 58 years, the late Opal Spindler (nee Cramblit). They settled in Des Plaines in 1954 and were members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Dean worked for 36 years in the corrugated packaging industry. He was known for his friendship, humor and generosity. Mr. Spindler was the father of Jean (the late Arvils) Reichs and Dean R. (Debby) Spindler; loving grandfather of Lauren Reichs (Paul) Tedesco and Daniel (Seneca) Spindler; and cherished great-grandfather of Jason Tedesco. Extended family members include the families of Chris (Jeanie) and Brian (Kendra) Favaro. He is survived by his sister, Eleanor O'Brien; brother, Harry; and twin brother, James. A memorial visitation will be held from 12 to 2:30 p.m., immediately followed by a brief service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St. (Northwest Highway/Route 14 at Rand Road), Des Plaines. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Post #273, 2967 Crestwood Lane, Grand Marsh, WI 53936 or the ALS Foundation.
