Dolores was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. The journey of her life on this earth was one marked by love and compassion. Her passing has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of her family and friends. She was a lifelong advocate for kindness. She was never scared to take on new opportunities and did everything with honesty and integrity.
She had very strong values and was well liked by everyone, mostly due to her positive energy. Dolores had incredible patience, and always made time to help others.
A 1960 graduate of Lake View High School, Chicago, she dedicated over 25 plus years of her life to Walgreens where she worked at the corporate headquarters as an advertising supervisor. Dolores traveled the world and her gentle wisdom, sense of humor, patience and perseverance in the face of adversity were admired by all. Her numerous friends, many from early childhood will remember her as someone who was loyal and dependable, a person who loved to laugh, socialize, play cards, go to concerts, and dine out. She never let you leave her presence without a smile.
Dolores’ greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Thomas Francis Barry and preceded in death by her younger brother, Robert Herskind. She is survived by her loving children, Michael Thomas Barry (Christyn) and Laura Ann Barry. She adored her five granddaughters, Ashley Barry, Amber Barry, Abilgale McMahon, Katherine Brigman (Joshua), Allyson Mixer (Kiel) and twin great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Madeline Brigman.
We ask that you remember her not for the way her life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Dolores’ light and legacy will continue to shine on in the lives she touched, and reminding us that we alone control our attitudes. We can choose not to live a life of regret, but live a life of meaningful acts of love and kindness.
