Eugene T. Kohl, 89, longtime resident of Des Plaines, Il, passed into eternal life on January 23, 2019. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, for many years Gene was one of the owners and operators of Frank A. Bremer & Sons Stationers in downtown Des Plaines. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. Gene’s life was all about his family and his faith and he was as generous and kind a man as could be found. He usually had a mischievous twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face, and his warmth and incredibly silly sense of humor endeared him to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Gene is now finally reunited with his beloved wife, Geraldine (nee Bremer), to whom he was married for 42 years and who predeceased him in 2001, and his precious granddaughter, Molly, who gained her angel wings in 2011. Gene was also preceded in death by his parents, Peter & Anna (Tujetsch) Kohl, his sisters, Arleen Rothe and Marilyn Young, and many other relatives and friends.
Gene is survived by his loving children, Stephen, Patrick (Kathryn), Peter (Margaret) and Kathleen (Brendan) Gaughan, his beloved grandchildren, James, Kelly, Ann, Margaret and Thomas, his sisters-in-law, Mary Bremer and Helen Bremer, and many nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom will forever miss his shining spirit but are beyond grateful to have had him touch their lives.
Visitation for Gene will be this Sunday, January 27, from 3-8pm at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St. in Des Plaines, where prayers will be said Monday January 28 at 9:15am and proceed to St. Mary Catholic Church, 794 Pearson St, Des Plaines mass 10am. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery.
Masses or donations in Gene’s name to the Veteran’s Administration are appreciated.
