Frank Richard Zigmond

Francis (Frank) R. Zigmond, 95, passed away peacefully on October 31st, 2024 in Northbrook, Illinois, surrounded by his family. Frank was born on August 20th, 1929 in Czechoslovakia to Joseph and Catherine. He married Martha Milbrandt on May 3rd, 1962 in Chicago, Illinois.

Frank is survived by his children Mary (James) Petit, Francis (Charmia) Zigmond, Margaret (John) Massarelli, William (Dawn) Zigmond, Mark (Janice) Zigmond, and his 19 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, his son, Michael, and his daughter, Elizabeth (Al) Kepler.

Frank served in the US Army during the Korean war. He specialized in engineering - building roads and bridges for troops advancement. Frank was honorably discharged in 1953.

After returning from military service, Frank co-founded Chicago Silk Screen, Inc. with his business partner and lifelong friend, Walter Sarna.

Frank enjoyed golfing with friends, bowling with his wife Martha, and pontoon boat rides on Brown’s lake. He loved having a glass of wine on the patio, splitting logs, building fires, and growing vegetables in his garden. He was an avid stamp and coin collector, and enjoyed giving out $2 bills to his grandchildren.

Frank was an avid traveler, fond of visiting places near and far including Bermuda, Italy, Australia, England, and Florida. He loved escaping the cold to be somewhere he could sit outside and read the morning paper.

Frank will be remembered for his loving and outgoing personality, his good humor, and his generosity and devotion to the Catholic church. He will be greatly missed.

Friends and family will gather for a visitation at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 6th at Saint Norbert Catholic Church, 1809 Walters Ave., Northbrook, IL.

Internment will follow at Sacred Heart cemetery, 605 Lee Road, Northbrook, IL.
