Ho Yeon Park was the beloved daughter to the late Goo Nyun Kang (mother) and the late Soo Sun Lee (father); devoted wife to the late Dong Soo Park; the most loving and dedicated mother to Kathy Park, the late Joan Park, John (Gini) Park of Burlington, VT, Esther (Ryan Tagal) Park; the most wonderful, affectionate and generous halmoni (Korean for grandmother) to Ethan Park, Grace Park and Hannah Park-Tagal.
Ho Yeon was born in Nagano because of the ongoing Japanese occupation of Korea that lasted until 1945. She was able to return to her Korean homeland in 1949 - just before the onset of the Korean War. She endured much hardship since the day she was born, but that did not deter her from having hopes and dreams for herself.
In 1965 she married her husband, Dong Soo Park and went on to have four children soon after. She was still determined to make a better life, so she and her family emigrated to America in 1974. They worked tirelessly to provide for their children in this new country. Unfortunately, her husband tragically passed away in 1978, which left her a widow with four young children that she now had to care for on her own. Even through these challenges, she held fast and worked relentlessly to make her American dream come true for her and her children.
Now on her own, she had to be both mother and father to her young children. She had to work doubly hard to provide for and protect her family. She encountered many obstacles and challenges that many would have found too daunting, but she had the fortitude to keep going to make a better life for her family. She wanted to make sure that her children were able to achieve the American dream that she fought and sacrificed so hard for.
In her later years, her grandchildren were what brought her much joy. Hannah was blessed to have been able to be around her halmoni for nearly 18 years. This allowed them to form such a loving and close relationship that Hannah will be able to treasure for the rest of her life.
Ho Yeon’s faith in God is what brought her through her most challenging and heartbreaking moments. Her faith also gave her the rested assurance that she knew she would be reunited with her loved ones that went before her. She accomplished her goals for her family and leaves a legacy of faith, courage, love, strength, resilience and generosity.
