John Lawrence Hogan

John L. Hogan of Chicago passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 4, 2025, at the age of 89. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Virginia (née Gribbon), his children Virginia (Rusty) Wright, Mary Ellen (Ken) Soch, Maureen (Rob) Burnie, Gerard (Karen) Hogan, and Eileen (Frank) Paparone. He was a loving grandfather of eleven and great-grandfather of three.

John was born on September 1, 1935, in New York and grew up on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx with his parents William and Matilda, and siblings Tillie, Mary, Tessie, and Bill. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and graduated from St. Peter’s College. John had an illustrious 30-year career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, starting as a mail clerk in the NY office and rising to become an agent in DC, Charlotte, Chicago, Special Agent in Charge of the New Rochelle and Philadelphia Offices before being appointed Assistant Director In Charge of the New York Office, where he concluded his public service career. He continued his professional journey as Vice President of Corporate Security with Kraft Foods and Philip Morris International. In retirement, John found pleasure in volunteering at the Lincoln Park Zoo, especially enjoying sharing the small animals with children visiting the Farm in the Zoo.

John was known for his faith in God, dedication to Country and love of Family and Friends. He loved his Cubbies and cherished attending many games and celebrating the World Series win in 2016. John never met a cookie or donut he didn’t like! His greatest joy came from spending time with Virginia and the family they built.

A visitation will be held at 9:15 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am on Monday, August 11, 2025,

at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview, IL. A private burial will follow the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Lincoln Park Zoo.
