

John Edward “Jack” Ormerod, age 87, of Des Plaines IL, passed away on October 20, 2021, twenty-eight years to the day after his lovely wife, Phyllis. Jack was the youngest of three sons born in Chicago, IL on May 26, 1934 to Mable (Peterson) and Albert Ormerod. He is survived by his daughter, Judith Joy (Scott) Assmann, three grandsons, Ian, Alec, and Dylan Assmann, and son, Michael John Ormerod. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Joyce (Pahnke) Ormerod, and older brothers Thomas (Gloria) and James (Lorraine) Ormerod.
Jack was always at the ready with a hardy laugh and words of encouragement. His kindness, sincerity, patience, and love for family and friends was evident the moment you met him. He was known for his great stories, a good martini, knowledge of Chicago history, and a deep interest in trains and streetcars. In his company you could not help but smile and feel at ease.
The celebration of life and visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and memorial service from 4:00 to 5:00 pm on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Fort Smith Trolley Museum, 100 South 4th Street, Fort Smith, AR, 72901.
