Born on April 20, 1930, in Chicago, to the late Ignatius Malek and Mary Malek (nee Potempa), she is reunited with her beloved husband, the late Joseph Koziol. Julia is cherished mother of Kurt (Karen) Koziol and Mary Beth (Thomas) Smith; adored grandmother of Joe (Taryn) Koziol, Jaime (Thomas) Delaney, Jaclyn (Stone) Schneider, Courtney Smith, and Connor Smith; adored great grandmother of Lydia and Isla Koziol and Burke, Reese and Hugh Delaney; Dear sister of Lillian ( Walter) Smietana, and Ceil (Richard) Moskal who preceded her in passing; loving aunt to many nephews and nieces and friend to many. Julia was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a devoted Chicago Cubs fan, and member of the Penguin Club. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family and traveling.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 794 Pearson Street, Des Plaines, IL on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 10 a.m. An interment will immediately follow at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery, 8600 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Niles, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations in Julia’s memory may be made to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls of Chicago. (Mercyhome.org)
