Kwang-Ae Jun

Born on May 1, 1943, in South Korea, she was the daughter of Byung Gun Kim and Hee Young Ko. She earned her nursing degree from Keimyung University College of Nursing in 1964.

In 1967, Kwang Ae immigrated to the United States. She married Byung Hak Jun in 1970 and together they shared 56 years of marriage. They built their life in the suburbs of Chicago, where they raised their two children, Iris and Andrew. Above all, Kwang Ae was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother. She fiercely loved her family and especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren, Emanuel (Sung Jae), Evangeline (Sung Hae), and Ezra (Sung Wook).

Kwang Ae's life was defined by her deep love for God, family, and friends. She formed lasting relationships that endured for decades and across great distances, nurturing each with love, generosity, and kindness. She shared a special bond with her siblings, nieces, and nephews, who felt her love through prayer, acts of generosity, support, and quiet devotion.

These same qualities guided her professional life. Kwang Ae dedicated more than 30 years to caring for veterans as a nurse at a Veterans Hospital in North Chicago, retiring in 2009. She was a beloved nurse, colleague, and friend who touched many lives through her compassion and commitment to helping others.

She will be remembered for her generous heart, unwavering kindness, and the love she shared with all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Andrew B. Jun, her daughter, Iris Smith (Michael), her son, Andrew Jun (Nicole), her grandchildren, Emanuel, Evangeline, and Ezra Jun, and her siblings, Kwang Sook Choi, Kwang Hee Lee, Kwang Wun Kim, and Kwang Hea Shin.

A visitation for Kwang Ae will be held Sunday, June 28, 2026 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL; followed by a celebration of life service at 5:00 PM at the same location.
