

LaVerne B. Bernard (nee Hartung), 93, of Sevierville TN, was born March 25, 1928 in Skokie, IL and passed away on October 25, 2021. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Preceding her in death was her husband, Fred, they were married 65 years.
LaVerne passed away peacefully at LeConte Medical Center in Sevierville, TN. She is survived by her 7 children: Sheilah (Rick) Kopelman, Norah (James) Nelson, Michael (Isabel) Bernard, Marciah (Robert) Boerema, Rondah (Charles) Curtin, Patrick (Pamela) Bernard and Mack (Cara) Bernard. She was a grandmother of 14 and a great grandmother of 15.
LaVerne chose to live out her days after retirement with Fred in the Great Smoky Mountains where she enjoyed the views, hikes, flora, birds, and the spirit of Eastern Tennessee.
She was a committed volunteer at numerous libraries, enjoyed needlework and knitting (donating many hand-knit caps to LeConte Newborn Nursery), maintained the aviary at her assisted living home, and lived a positive and grateful lifestyle.
She was a Parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (Gatlinburg, TN) and St. Zachary Catholic Church (Des Plaines, IL).
Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at St. Zachary Catholic Church (567 Algonquin Rd, Des Plaines, IL). Funeral Mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. Internment at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in LaVerne’s name to Classic Design Aviaries, Inc. (2606 B. Wilson Rd., Commerce GA 30529) to help maintain the aviary that she cared for and loved at Brookdale.
The family would like to extend their appreciation for the loving care their mother received by all the staff members at Brookdale, Sevierville for the past 7 years.
