Lolita Adug Torres , age 78, of Melrose Park, IL., passed away on October 4, 2018. She was born on March 11, 1940 in Jinalinan, Pandan, Antique, Philippines, to Joseph and Pilar Adug and was the middle of three children.
She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Amadeo S. Torres, loving sister and aunt to Ellaquim Adug and children and the late Nemesio Adug and children. Lolita is survived by her three children: Will (Fia) Torres, Lilian (Rudy) Perez, and Lorna (Ken) Tam, nine grandchildren: William and Jacob Torres, Rudy, Javy, and Adrian Perez, and Jessica, Brandon, Ethan, and Sophia Tam.
Lolita or “Nanay”, as she is affectionally called, was the pioneer of the family. She was the matriarch coming to America in 1973 and took a chance on making life better for her family back home. On May 5th, 1975, Nanay went back to the Philippines and picked up her husband and their three young children all under the age of 9. We will never forget how in her first battle with breast cancer, she would have chemo and then turn around and work a 12-hour shift at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital on the same night. She was a superwoman. Lolita dedicated many years of hard work as a registered nurse and caring for people outside her family. She worked a total of 51 years as an RN, of which the last 36 years was at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, where she retired. She will always be known for her compassionate, kind, and unselfish ways towards others. Nanay, we will miss your cooking, taking you to the casino, and the envelopes full of one dollar bills during Christmas. You are forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 4-9 pm at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St. (corner of Northwest Hwy/Rt14 and Rand Rd) in Des Plaines. Funeral Service will be held at 7pm on the same day.
