Maria Raquel Berkwitt

Maria Raquel Berkwitt, 64, of Des Plaines Illinois, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025. She was born on February 13, 1961 in Guanajuato, Mexico to J Jesus Perez and Ma. Leonor Orta. She was one of sixteen children.

She loved her family, traveling, and tending to her garden. She loved life. She was a strong, determined, kind, generous, and beautiful woman. She had the most beautiful smile and amazing laugh. She met the love of her life and best friend. They spent the last 20 years together making a lifetime's worth of beautiful memories that she cherished more than anything. She was a warrior, a fighter to the very end.

Raquel will be lovingly remembered by her husband Arthur Berkwitt, daughter Daisy Ramirez, son Dan Berkwitt, son-in-law Josue Campos, daughter-in-law Noel Berkwitt, grandchildren Natalie, Nicole, Nevaeh, Ariana, Nova, Jayden, and dog Toby. As well as so many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, J. Jesus Perez and Ma. Leonor Orta. Her siblings Vicente Perez and Maria de Los Angeles Salinas.

A Mass for Raquel will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Mary Church (794 Pearson St., Des Plaines, IL), followed by a memorial service from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Oehler Funeral Home (2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL). A committal ceremony will follow on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 12:30 pm at All Saints Cemetery (700 N. River Rd., Des Plaines, IL ).
