Born in Poland in 1942 to Jan and Maria Marcinkiewicz, after her family fled Belarus during WWII, Marta was raised in Plewnia, Poland. In 1962, she immigrated to the United States where she met fellow expat Belarussian, Mikolaj Kuczura, on a blind date. They shared 49 wonderful years of marriage and built a life together in Chicago’s Archer Heights neighborhood where they lovingly raised their family and formed lasting friendships with neighbors who became like extended family.
Marta was the devoted mother of John (Sang Hee), Lisa (Armando), and Tom (Eve); cherished grandmother of Frederick and Amanda Sosa, Ema and Jung Kuczura, and Willa, Reed, and Ian Kuczura; proud great-grandmother of Brooklyn and Santana Sosa. She was also a beloved aunt to Kathryn Pradun.
Marta’s greatest joy was caring for her family. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her wonderful sense of humor, and the famous pound cakes she baked and shared with those she loved. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
Marta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mikolaj; her parents; her siblings, Walter and Nadzieja; her son-in-law, Armando; her niece, Helene Johnson; and her nephew, Janek Pradun.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, June 30, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, at 10:00 a.m. at Oehler Funeral Home, followed by interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
